Badge Printing

Today I sent an email to a company that prints badges professionally called The Badge Co. I sent them the artwork I want printed for the magic society.

To get one 25mm badge printed costs £1.99. They only list up to 100 badges printed at £28.99 so if I make this into 300 for every member in the club it would cost £86.97 but this would probably be lowered a bit.

The website also says that these are printed using CMYK but Pantone colours are available on request. I want the gold to be a metallic Pantone so I asked for a quote and hopefully they'll get back to me. I will order one CMYK and one Pantone if possible as an example for my membership kit.

Finished Booklet

Ta-da! Finished the magic booklet. I uploaded it onto Issuu to get a feel of how it will look before I print it.

Membership Forms

A couple of different versions of the membership form. This will be included in the main booklet but with a perforated edge so it can be torn out and sent off. I prefer the columned text on the first page but on the second, the last question is a bit long and doesn't look right. So I think I prefer the second version.

Stamp Packaging

Been thinking about how to package my stamp set today. I decided that a single folding sheet would work best and I came up with the hierarchy of information and order of the panels for this format.

Initial Spreads

The cover and a couple of initial spread designs for the booklet. The 2nd one could work well with the text cut out as inner pages or a dust jacket.

Magic Booklet

For the magic booklet I have decided to create an A5 booklet with info about magic, the club, etc. with a smaller 10x10cm booklet inside of this detailing how to perform a few magic tricks. These are some ideas for layouts of the spreads.

Member Certificates

I thought that having a white background would be better for the certificates as it could then be written on using normal pen. But it doesn't really fit with the rest of the stuff I've designed. So I changed the background to black and it instantly looks better. The written parts will just have to be done using a white or gold pen but this would make it more special so I think it works ok.

I then decided that the certificate is lacking something and that it needs to be made a bit more special. Rather than foiling the logo I think a foil seal would show that it is an authentic membership certificate. So I designed this as an example using the bevel tool in Illustrator. I'll make it flat for when its actually foiled.

When I tried this out on the certificates they looked a lot more official.

I tried some different alignments of the text and I think these last two work best. Just not sure whether to have the double lines or the full border. I'll ask in the next crit.

Letter Sets

Letter sets for the fonts I'm deciding between. These will be printed on sticker paper and then cut to create the individual letters. I used 5 of each character so that the sender's message isn't too limited.

Font Choices

Some initial font choices for the stamps. I think it would be better in all caps or all lowercase as then the letter set would only have to be in one case. It needs to be quite a bold font as it will be very small. I tried some of these out and the following ones worked best at print size.

Out of these I like TrashHand and Akzidenz Grotesk best as they are clear, bold and legible at a small point size. TrashHand is nice because its also a handwritten font, making it kind of personal like a Valentine's card would be whereas Akzidenz Grotesk fits in with my Modernist agenda. Hmm its difficult to decide, I think I might make a mock up of the letter set and see which looks better with the stuck on letters added.

Membership Certificates

Some ideas for membership certificates. A gold wax seal or foil stamp would make this look really special. Not sure what kind of stock to do it on though, black isn't really used for certificates but mine could break this norm...

Membership Cards

Some artworks for the membership cards. I still want to keep them slightly mysterious so if someone finds your wallet they wouldn't automatically know what this card was for. These could look good printed on matte stock with a gold Pantone or foiled. Again the black varnish or embossing could look really stylish too. I need to test these properly to select the best result. I want these to have crisp square edges as I think it is more appropriate than rounded edges.
