Rationale

In this module I plan to focus on briefs that enable me to capitalise on my skills in type and layout. I am interested in publication design and hope to create some of these in various formats. I find it very interesting to try and arrange content into a visually stimulating yet organised manner. Doing briefs that focus on type and layout will help to make my work more specialist. I feel that my work is heavily influenced by Modernist style graphic design and that legibility and clarity are integral to my design practice. My dissertation has helped me to realise the importance of grids within this style of work. I want to design editorial work as well as informative graphics as I am interested in designing publications that have a clear purpose as opposed to trivial documents such as zines. I intend to do lots of research into contemporary practice of designing for publications and the mechanics of typography. In order to evaluate my work I will post what I have done to my blog on a regular basis. Group crit sessions and personal tutorials will also inform me of how I am progressing as a designer.
